Happy New Year gorgeous people!! I hope 2018 brings you light, love, lessons and blessings. It’s that stereotypical time of year to set intentions for the year ahead, but a great opportunity to make positive changes in our lives. Something at the top of my list for 2018 and beyond is to make more conscious and sustainable choices in my everyday life.

One of the main reasons I became Vegetarian back in 2016 was due to the huge impact meat production has on our beautiful earth. It is the number one cause for global warming, and as an avid traveller and world-lover, this simply wouldn’t do.

At the time I was spending a lot of time around Asia which puts you much closer to the whole ‘animal to plate’ process. This brought my own actions to the forefront of my mind. I love animals dearly, so why am I valuing some lives more than others? I also love travelling the world and witnessing its beauty, so why am I contributing to its destruction?

The choice was actually very easy for me. I decided to stop living on autopilot and become more conscious of my actions and the impact they have on the things I love and care about.

It really came down to this very simple statement: I want to wake up each morning knowing that I am part of the solution rather than the problem.

I didn’t stop eating meat because I didn’t like the taste, but because I realised that it wasn’t about me. It wasn’t about what I wanted. It was bigger than me. I could no longer take lives and contribute to the destruction of the world for a plate of food that I would forget the contents of a week later.

I can live a healthy, tasty and nutritious lifestyle without. I haven’t looked back since!

But what I really wanted to speak about in this post is how we can ALL make small changes in our daily lives that will contribute to BIG change. We need to collectively stop ignoring the truth regardless of its inconvenience and take responsibility for our own actions.

Whether you are a meat-eater, pescatarian, vegetarian, vegan or somewhere in between, we can all become more conscious of our actions. Here are 4 things you can start doing today to make a change!

1. Recycling is the last resort!

Let’s stop thinking of recycling as the solution but more of a last resort. With this mindset, we avoid much more unnecessary waste! What I mean by this is, let’s try and avoid as much waste as possible rather than relying on recycling to do the good stuff (unfortunately, most plastic doesn’t get recycled, anyway). Ask yourself these questions: Do you need that plastic bag for your stuff or do you already have heaps at home? Do you really need that plastic coffee cup or could you bring a reusable one with you? Do you need to buy food wrapped in packaging or can you buy the fresh loose stuff? Shift your mindset and you’ll start to see all the small but amazing changes you can make!

2. Meat-free Mondays! (and Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Thurs…😉)

If you eat meat, consider how much you actually consume and when you can reduce this. Perhaps you could narrow it down to just one day a week, or just every few days. Meat eaters on average are actually consuming more meat than is even healthy for them. This would be such a healthy change to make, not only for the environment but for yourself too.

3. Invest in sustainable, conscious brands

This is something I’m even more dedicated to supporting these days. So many new brands with conscious values are popping up all over the place and it is so refreshing!!! Not only can your fashion and products look and do good, but you can feel good too knowing that they aren’t harming animals, the environment or the people who make them. A few of my faves are Lush, Batu Bali and The Wylde.

4. Change your search browser!

This one is the easiest of them all regardless of your diet or lifestyle. If you are reading this then you use the internet. By switching your search browser to Ecosia you are contributing to planting trees around the world with every click! AND IT’S FREE!!! How amazing is that? There is no excuse or reason not to do this one! Check out them out >> here << for more info on the great things they are doing and to download for free!

I really hope this has inspired you to make little changes that will have a huge impact!! Let’s all come together to make our beautiful Earth healthy again! ♡

Let’s keep our conscience clear and our oceans clearer!!!!!!!
